When most of us think of parasols, we think of Victorian ladies sipping tea at garden parties. Victorian beauties had multiple reasons for carrying parasols, however; not only were they fashionable, but they also helped ladies maintain their fair complexions. A fair complexion was a sign of refinement, and an indication that a woman didn't have to work outdoors. Parasols were so popular that women of the day often had them custom-made to match each of their different outfits, starting a trend of decorative umbrellas.
Our lace parasols come in a variety of colors with many trims including beaded, ruffled, pom-pom tasseled, and fringed. We offer a selection of vintage parasols that evoke a 19th century romantic style. Many of our decorative umbrellas are made from battenburg lace which is a type of tape lace with a delicate floral or geometric pattern. Battenburg lace is a form of renaissance lace originating in the 16th century during Queen Victoria's reign of England. It was named after her son, the Duke of Battenburg. It was customary at that time for every English duke to have a lace pattern named after him.
We carry full size parasols and mini, decorative parasols. The miniature parasols make wonderful party favors, gifts, and special event decorations.
